Stancold Supports Heart Restart Challenge

Stancold was very pleased to support this year’s Heart Restart Challenge in aid of public defibrillators for the community of Portishead, just a few miles down the road from the factory and offices in Bristol.

The cycle ride took place in mid-September and took 20 riders from Portishead around the Isle of Wight and back via The New Forest. It took the team three days, sustained by plenty of bananas and flapjack. Thankfully the weather was on their side, but it’s not surprising to hear that there were a lot of sore legs at the end of the 260 miles!

The ride was in support of the Lions Club of Portishead’s Community Defibrillation Scheme. This fantastic project started in 2014 and aims to provide the local community with access to live-saving defibrillators.

The defibrillators, which are used on patients suffering from cardiac arrest, are placed around the town and can be accessed via a code when calling the South Western Ambulance Service on 999. It means that almost immediate treatment is available to the patient, which can dramatically increase the chances of a positive outcome.

The team taking part in the Isle of Wight Cycle challenge raised an impressive £7,500. This will allow them to place another three public access defibrillators in Portishead and provide servicing for the units that are currently in place for over a decade.

Simon Robertson, the organiser of the charity fundraiser said “Best of all was … the camaraderie between everyone. Smiles and laughs galore”.  He added that Stancold’s sponsorship really made a difference: “without that support events like this are very difficult to get off the ground”.

Stancold believes strongly in sponsoring local charitable endeavors, which is why we wanted to lend our support the Heart Restart Challenge. It will have an impact of the lives of a local community for years to come.
