As one of the UK’s leading installers of bespoke walk in cold rooms and hygienic food production areas, we couldn’t think of any better prize for us to sponsor at the 2016 Taste of the West Product Awards than ice-cream champion.
For 23 years the awards have been celebrating the best of food and drink in the South West, covering Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. This year over 1,200 products were entered, making the judges’ decisions harder than ever.
The winner of the ice-cream and sorbet category was Baboo Gelato, who scooped (pun intended) the prize for their Lemon Sorbet. Based on the Dorset coast in Bridport, founder Annie was determined to create artisan ice-cream using organic milk from local herds and seasonal fruit. The lollies and ice-creams are all handmade on-site.
The Awards ceremony was held at Exeter Cathedral and was attended by over 400 people, including our colleague Tom Court. Lucky guests were treated to a delicious lunch crafted from some of the best produce in the region.
The winners were announced by John Sheaves, Chief Executive of Taste of the West, and the awards were presented by BBC Spotlight’s Victoria Graham.
John Sheaves said, “We are absolutely delighted with the response by industry to our awards programme this year. With over 1200 products entered, and over 60% of these receiving an award, we are justly proud of our record for driving excellence based on our core values of Quality, Integrity and Provenance. These awards announced today underpin those values and strengthen our regional brand, a brand which is attracting considerable interest from new markets – both nationally and internationally, and is now opening up new opportunities for the region’s foodie sector. There is a real energy and excitement about our group now which is very gratifying.”
