Stancold prides itself on being a ‘people business’ and we fully recognise that our workforce is our most important asset. Building on family values for the last three-quarters of a century, we certainly wouldn’t be able to successfully operate across the UK without our team’s expertise, commitment and hard work.
It’s these qualities that perfectly sum up Stancold’s Senior Contracts Manager, Sam Glover, who, this month, is celebrating a fantastic 25 years with the business. Joining the team in 1996 with 10 years of experience already under his belt, Sam started on the tools under Mercury Coldrooms, another Bristol-based business that was quickly bought by Stancold.
His experience led him to managing projects up and down the country and since then, he has headed up more than £50m worth of contracts across the food & drink industry, working with bakeries, confectionery brands and dairies to name just a few.
Sam states his most memorable work was in 2018 for Rich’s Bakery and their principal contractor, Rekan. A £1.2m project that led to 9 months spent on site, this included over 13,000m² of food-safe panelling to complete the full internal fit-out of their flagship ‘centre of excellence’ in Andover. However, watch this space as there are plenty more exciting projects on the horizon!
Sam has also been instrumental in establishing some of our longest and strongest relationships with clients in the industry, such as Yeo Valley and Refresco, working alongside them as they have changed and grown their operations over the years.
The last 25 years has allowed Sam to see major shifts in the industry in a number of ways; the use of polystyrene panels to today’s PIR and Mineral Fibre systems have been the most prominent change thanks to increasingly demanding insurance requirements regarding fire risk. Developments across Health & Safety have also meant that construction methods and overall site safety is now much improved, something that Sam has welcomed.
When we asked Sam what he enjoys most about working at Stancold, he said it’s down to the great working relationships across the business and the camaraderie that comes with it – we can certainly testify this, it’s always a pleasure having him around!
We hope you will join us in congratulating Sam on his ‘Silver Jubilee’ and everyone at the business would like to thank him for his valued contributions and continued dedication.
As part of the celebrations and as a gesture of appreciation for Sam’s milestone achievement, we are engaging with local charitable causes that mean the most to him. More details on this to follow.
