Multiple Unit Firewalls Completed for Birmingham Industrial Development

The handover has been completed by Stancold’s industrial partitions team in Birmingham, following the delivery of one-hour fire-rated separation walls within a new-build industrial park.

The wider development, known as the Advanced Manufacturing Hub, is dedicated to the growth of this important sector across the Midlands, and our team were involved in the sub-division of 4 new-build industrial blocks to create 18 units available for lease to new tenants.

The successful main contractor for the works was an existing client and invited Stancold to tender for the passive fire protection responsibility within the contract.

Negotiations with Stancold’s industrial partitions specialist, Shaun Jones, began in pre-pandemic 2019 and resumed following the subsequent lockdowns. Shaun worked hard to ensure that the fire-rated specification could be achieved in line with an evolving design.

This contract saw the team install approximately 2740m² of composite Mineral Fibre panelling to construct 60-minute fire-rated walls alongside accompanying fireboarding. Thanks to a trusted supply chain, we were able to source market-leading and certified alternatives even in a changing market.

Reflecting on the project, Shaun commented: “The volatilities in the post-pandemic steel market and ongoing COVID restrictions within the construction industry were certainly complex to navigate but our team remained resilient to provide an undisrupted service as much as possible.”
