A firewall is a partition which, along with the necessary ancilliaries, will prevent a fire from spreading across two spaces for a certain time period. This can often be for 60 minutes (1 hour) or 120 minutes (2 hours).
Does Stancold advise on specific fire-ratings needed?
While Stancold can provide guidance on fire-ratings, we cannot advise on the specific fire-ratings needed for a project’s circumstances. Usually, the need to construct a firewall between two spaces is raised by Building Control or an insurer, so either of these parties could advise on the fire-rating needed. Once we’re aware of the specific fire-rating required, we can work with you to achieve it.
What does Stancold need to know to quote a firewall?
The key pieces of information our team will need are the basic dimensions of the required wall(s) and the operational nature of the two areas to be segmented. Knowing which area needs to be protected from the other allows us to install the most applicable system.
Can Stancold’s fire-rated wall packages provide fire protection from both sides?
Stancold can devise a solution that provides protection from both sides, but it depends on the installation methodology. Our team will work with you to understand the project’s specific requirements so that we can install the necessary system for the circumstances.
Will an industrial firewall ever need to be supported by structural steels?
If the height of the firewall is above the span of our composite panel system, then the panels will need to be installed horizontally with steel support. Stancold can also provide this element of the project.
Will the structural steels need to be fire-rated too?
Fire rating structural steels depends on the specific circumstances of the facility. If a fire could break out on the side on which the steel is, then the steel supports would need to be fire-rated. This is another aspect of the project that Stancold could manage for you!
Is Stancold’s firewall system compliant with current regulations?

Can Stancold provide a supply-only firewall?
No, we do not have certifications that cover the supply of fire-rated panels only.

No, Stancold cannot install a 4-hour fire-rated ceiling due to the weight of the panels required for such a complex solution. We can only construct a 4-hr fire-rated enclosure if the panels are going right up to the existing warehouse roof.
