Stancold’s food projects team have been appointed as the interior fit-out contractor for South East foodservice provider, Albion Fine Foods, as part of their ongoing expansion into a brand-new distribution facility in Dartford.
Having successfully worked together in 2020 for a freezer and cold store build within their existing premises, the business knew that they had a trusted contractor by their side to aid them into their next phase of rapid growth.
After exploring different site options to best suit their operations, opportunities for future-proofing and environmental credentials, Stancold’s food projects expert, Patrick Ball, was on hand to assist with the internal specification of their chosen facility.
“The food projects team and I were able to advise on varying elements of the design from the ground-up, to not only ensure that our client was able to make cost savings where appropriate, but also logistical sense when it comes to the placement of refrigeration equipment and plant.
Being able to introduce and work alongside one of our trusted refrigeration partners as part of these works has been and will continue to be valuable in the smooth running of this estimated 4-month build.”

As part of the turnkey fit-out of this food distribution and storage warehouse, Stancold’s food projects team will be responsible for the installation of nearly 10,000 m² of insulated panels to form a large freezer, marshalling area and multiple chillers, alongside dedicated meat and cheese product storage rooms. Stancold also assumed responsibility for the coordination and installation of food-safe doors, flooring and protection systems.
Highlights of this specification include a full-height freezer, reaching 14 metres, allowing for a greater storage of goods, segmented into high turnover and low turnover sections, as well as an internal mezzanine within the chiller to create a workflow that considers thermal wastage within the space.
Opportunities for future-proofing have been a key consideration throughout our negotiations with Albion Fine Foods, where not only does panel construction aid future modular build options, but particular attention has been paid to the specification of flooring to allow for modifications going forward.
