Fire-Rated Internal Fit-Out for London’s New Food Innovation Hub

When it comes to fire-rated construction, Stancold’s commitment to fire safety is unrivalled. We are one of the few compartment wall installers in the UK to hold certification from the Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) that provides us with third-party accreditation of every fire-rated installation.

It’s this element of our service that enabled us to win the competitive tender process for one of Stancold’s biggest contracts to date, the fire-rated internal fit-out of a new food innovation and manufacturing hub located in south London.

Since the build kicked off in December, our expert team have been working tirelessly with the contract’s principal contractor to construct 11 internal food-safe units, where once complete, will be lettable to up-and-coming start-ups and entrepreneurs in the industry for culinary creation and collaboration.

As part of the fire safety strategy for units with multiple occupancy, the compartment walls required a one-hour fire-rating as well as a standard food-safe finish. Stancold’s enhanced expertise and prior experience of integrating multiple elements like this into a project design meant that this was a natural responsibility of the team.

Our credentials in passive fire protection construction were also valued; as an LPS 1500 approved installer of fire resisting compartmentation systems and LPS 1531 approved installer of passive fire protection products, this sealed the deal to gain a contractor’s trust.

As a large-scale contract with an intricate design and installation schedule, Stancold’s different departments collaborated at length, both internally and with the client, to ensure that the specification could be achieved in line with our client’s expectations.

The project encompasses over 20,000m² of composite panelling – the equivalent of 75 tennis courts – and utilises Kingspan’s QuadCore system, with a total of 35 FR30 personnel doors. Firestopping will be required at the abutments to seal openings and guarantee fire integrity.

As our progress on site is around 65%, we look forward to sharing our progress with you.
