Here at Stancold, an important part of our company ethos is developing talent within the younger generation, where we are committed to providing opportunities for support, growth and hands-on learning across our specialist area of construction.
This is why we continue to offer apprenticeships across different areas of the business, allowing us to not only broaden the skillset of our teams, but engage with enthusiastic young individuals that are ready to undertake a hybrid of theory and on-the-job learning.
With this in mind, our resident Apprentice Marketing Executive, Charlie White, has now celebrated his first anniversary with Stancold, so we caught up with him to find out how the last year has served him as he nears completion of his Level 3 Digital Marketing qualification:
What have you learnt about yourself over the past year?
“By jumping straight into the working environment, I’ve definitely become more independent. Managing my time to complete tasks, making decisions within my responsibilities and using my initiative are all important aspects of my role.
I have also learnt the value of the subjects I studied previously and how they have given me a good foundation to start my career, particularly my efforts in English Language and Business Studies.”
What personal skills have you gained during this time?
“My willingness to learn and motivation skills have been key as I’ve developed my level of understanding on different marketing strategies that we work through at Stancold. Hand-in-hand with this has been problem-solving, where I’ve worked my way around the variety of digital platforms that I now use day-to-day, finding new ways to get the best out of them.”
Which areas of marketing are you enjoying the most?
“It’s great to have a variety of marketing responsibilities so I’m really enjoying content creation and copywriting, seeing the fruits of my labour from my lead generation efforts and also managing website and social media activities for our two brands, Stancold and CREST.”
How are you finding the balance between on-the-job learning and off-the-job learning?
“I’ve got a really good balance. Stancold are really supportive in providing apprentices with the dedicated time to focus on our studies, away from the bustling office environment, meaning I can work with no distractions. I think this has been a major factor in being able to get ahead of where I need to be!”
What are you looking forward to once you complete your apprenticeship?
“Being able to apply what I’ve learnt throughout my apprenticeship and commit to putting this into practice. I know that I will only continue to learn more and develop from here, both professionally and personally.”
What advice do you have to others looking for an apprenticeship?
“If you’re going for interviews, stay determined and confident in your abilities – if you don’t succeed initially, keep going. It’s all worthwhile experience after all! Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and perhaps explore new industries, there is something out there for everyone.”
Thank you to Charlie for sharing his experiences over the last year, it’s been a pleasure to have him as part of the team.
