TWO-HOUR FIREWALLS FOR DISTRIBUTION CENTRE

Main Contractor

Background

Due to our warehouse tenant’s changing business needs and successful completion of their original expansion project, Stancold were delighted to be invited back to work on the next phase of their new warehouse extension.

Process

The main dividing wall, measuring 120m x 15m needed to be upgraded to a 60-minute firewall. Two small hub offices and an office wall extension of 45m to a wall we had previously built which need to be fitted with a 2-hour firewall.

Main project challenges included:

  • Access constraints due to existing live services preventing traditional installation methods
  • Upgrading fire protection on operational premises with minimal disruption
  • Coordinating works around active warehouse operations

Project Delivery

To overcome the access constraints, Stancold provided a bespoke design solution to enable safe installation of the top panels whilst still maintaining the integrity of the final construction.

Our team implemented a phased installation approach. We designed the firewall to be built from 3 panels up which protected the client’s slab connection work, while the panels simultaneously provided temporary weather protection during construction, thus demonstrating our ability to flex construction sequencing around client needs without sacrificing compliance or quality.

We provided a design solution for this and will install the remaining panels once the extension is complete.
