1-Hour Horizontal Firewall for Industrial Park Expansion

Background 

As the Swindon industrial park underwent an expansion, Stancold won the tender to complete the sub-dividing fire-rated partitioning work in a new unit on the site.

Process

From the outset, building a strong working relationship with the main contractor was central to our approach. Through open discussion and our technical expertise, our team outlined the benefits of using Euroclad composite panel system over traditional alternatives. We worked collaboratively to develop a value-engineered proposal that balanced the contractor’s specification requirements, budget and programme expectations.

The main project challenges included:

• Adapting the installation method to suit the building’s height without compromising fire integrity
• Designing and mobilising a 700m² installation within a 4 week turnaround
• Designing a solution that aligned with the contractor’s budget

Project Delivery

Due to the height of the building, our team specified a horizontal panel installation as the most technically appropriate method for achieving the required fire rating at this scale. We installed over 700 m² of Euroclad Mineral Fibre panels to achieve the 1-hour fire-rating with intumescent batt applied to the top and sides of the wall for maximum fire integrity, completed with a painted deflection head detail.

With just 4 weeks between the initial pre-let meeting and arriving on site, both our office-based projects team and on-site installers worked in close coordination to prepare and execute the build efficiently, delivering on time and within budget resulting in another happy client.
