60-Minute Fire-Rated Enclosure For Specialist Equipment

Packaging Manufacturer

Background

Stancold were approached by a main contractor following a recommendation from their supply chain partner. They were seeking a competitive alternative to traditional jumbo stud work for a specialist project at an aluminium packaging innovation facility, where four fire-rated partitions were required to form an enclosure housing new specialist equipment.

Process

As this was the main contractor’s first time using a composite system for fire-rated partitioning, we ensured that we worked collaboratively from the outset so that the design and specification matched their requirements.

The main project challenges included:

  • Guiding a contractor through their first composite fire-rated system specification
  • Executing a phased approach that coordinated seamlessly with other contractors on site
  • Timing installation around the arrival and positioning of new specialist equipment

Project Delivery

Our on-site team worked hard to meet the project’s tight programme, adapting to the busy, multi-contractor site. The composite enclosure was formed using a Mineral Fibre panel system, with panels installed vertically from 2m high concrete bunds, enhancing protection against hazardous leakage from the specialist equipment housed within.

Comprehensive firestopping was applied throughout to achieve the required FR60 specification, ensuring full fire integrity across the enclosure. The project was completed successfully thanks to the team’s meticulous planning and expert knowledge of fire-rated systems.
