N+1 Air Freight Storage Facilities

Pharmaceutical Distribution

The Brief

Following the success of an earlier chilled and ambient pharmaceutical storage project, a London air freight client returned to Stancold directly as they relocated to a second warehouse. The move called for additional cold storage capacity in the form of a cold store, freezer and ambient room, designed and built quickly enough to support the relocation without holding back operations.

Our Approach

With the relocation on a fast timeline, our team completed a comprehensive site survey within four days of the initial enquiry.

The client’s operations shaped the design. Conventional concrete flooring would not withstand the loads from heavy cargo pallets, so the scope included a bespoke reinforced freezer floor designed around how the site actually works.

Rather than presenting a single route, we developed three design options, giving the client a clear basis for choosing the solution that best matched their requirements.

Delivery in Action

Despite the compressed schedule, our team was ready to begin installation within six weeks of the initial enquiry.

The warehouse stayed live and constantly changing throughout. Drawing on extensive installation experience, the team planned and sequenced the works around the client’s activity, keeping the build on track alongside day-to-day cargo handling.

Kingspan QuadCore was utilised across the scope of the project, with 1,042m² of partitioning forming all three rooms. Alongside the reinforced freezer floor, Stancold provided an N+1 refrigeration package with continuous temperature monitoring. This builds in the redundancy that protects temperature-critical stock, and the business that depends on it, if any single component fails.
