N+1 Laboratory Cold Store

Cravencroft

The Brief

South-East engineering contractor Cravencroft needed a specialist partner for the cold store package within wider refurbishment works for a biotechnology services provider in Cambridgeshire. The +4°C cold store sat in the laboratory’s sample storage area and was specified with N+1 refrigeration redundancy to protect high-value sample materials. That meant Cravencroft needed a contractor who could take full ownership of every element of the package.

Our Approach

Stancold’s tender submission gave Cravencroft the technical detail it needed to commit with confidence: a clear scope, defined interfaces and no ambiguity about what would be delivered. On that basis, Cravencroft appointed Stancold as turnkey cold storage contractor. Stancold delivered the insulated envelope and the refrigeration as a single package, with one point of responsibility.

Delivery in Action

The cold store was built from 48m² of 80mm Kingspan QuadCore panels. Its N+1 refrigeration system holds the +4°C specification, and an automatic changeover function brings the standby unit online if the duty system fails.

Because the room was housed among several traditional-build rooms, the programme needed tight sequencing. Stancold completed the first fix refrigeration works, handed the area over to follow-on trades, and then returned the finish the build package. This kept interfaces clean and supported Cravencroft’s wider programme.

The result was a resilient cold storage environment for critical sample materials, delivered as one coordinated package within a live multi-trade refurbishment.
