Background

Building on a successful ongoing partnership with a specialist engineering contractor for data centre and technical services management, Stancold’s Industrial Partitions team were invited back to deliver fire-rated enclosure works for an end user in Brighton.

Process

The project required a secure, fire-rated enclosure to house on-site IT services and server equipment as part of a wider data centre development. Located on the upper level of a mezzanine floor and specified to achieve a 1-hour fire rating, the build presented both structural and compliance considerations that needed careful planning from the outset.

The main project challenges included:

  • Designing a fire-rated enclosure on an upper mezzanine level with structural and access considerations
  • Coordinating installation to allow seamless integration of M&E services by other contractors
  • Value-engineering the solution to meet the client’s outlined budget

Project Delivery

Working closely with the client, our team value-engineered the project to deliver a compliant, cost-effective solution that met both the technical specification and budgetary requirements.

Once the contract was confirmed, Stancold completed a site visit to finalise design and access details, ensuring the installation could proceed smoothly. Our on-site team successfully constructed and handed over the fire-rated room in line with the client’s construction programme, allowing for the seamless integration of M&E services by other contractors.

Upon completion, the team presented the contractor with LPCB certification of compliance, confirming the fire resistance of the build and providing the assurance required for this critical data centre infrastructure.
