Part of the Government’s nationwide Apprenticeship Programme, Oliver Parkin has joined Stancold as Apprentice Estimator in November 2015.
Due to constant business growth this year, we were looking for an Apprentice Estimator to assist us with the increasing number of enquiries and requests for quotations ensuring that we can service the needs of our clients and continue to return quotations in a timely manner.
After successfully passing a series of interviews and a general Math test, Oliver has proven to possess the right qualities and skills necessary to perform well and excel in this role, namely being hard working, reliable, honest and willing to learn.
19yrs old and freshly obtaining his A-levels in Science related subjects at Backwell School in Bristol, Oliver aspires to become a Quantity Surveyor, a profession he first heard of from a family friend.
When asked what the main reasons for preferring Stancold to other companies were, Oliver recalls:
“It was clear to me from the history of the company and the job description that Stancold is a very professional company showing a clear plan for future progression. In addition to this, the company office was under 5 miles from my home and the role came with a competitive starting salary compared to most other apprenticeships.”
After the first month at Stancold, Oliver still shows the same passion and enthusiasm with which he embarked on this journey:
“Everyone has made me feel very welcome and has helped me settle in for which I am very grateful. I enjoy the dynamic nature of my role where no two projects are the same, and I enjoy working with such friendly and professional colleagues.”
Over the next 24 months Oliver will be studying towards a Civil Engineering Diploma at Weston College 1 day per week and gaining a hands on estimating experience at Stancold for the remaining 4 days.
After the apprenticeship, Oliver will have the outstanding opportunity to start a successful career in Quantity Surveying as full training will be provided over the upcoming 5 Years to cover a Foundation Course, Professional Certificate and Masters Degree in Quantity Surveying at RICS Academy and UWE.
Andy Croxton, Commercial Director at Stancold and Oliver’s Mentor said:
“As employers, we have a responsibility to train our young people in meaningful jobs, ensuring they develop skills and knowledge that will hopefully set them up for a lifetime of work and progression at Stancold. We have a proud record of recruiting apprentices having taken on board CAD Apprentices and Contract Coordinators in the past few years who have since been fully trained and promoted into full time positions at Stancold. We even have someone retiring in the next few years who did their apprenticeship with us over 40 years ago. “
If Stancold continues to grow in line with its plans in the next 12 months we will require new apprentice CAD operators, Estimators and Contract Co-ordinators to join our team.
